【木の特ちょう―５樹種の被爆樹木とともに】
地元で愛されている「吉島稲生（よしじまいなり）神社」。境内入口、石造りの鳥居の根元にヤブツバキが立っています。冬、寒い時期から4月初旬頃まで真っ赤な花を咲かせます。爆心地から約2キロ、熱線や火災による焼失をまぬがれたためか、境内には多くの被爆樹木が残っています。ヤブツバキのそばにはクロマツ、ひときわ大きいクスノキ、エノキ、ひっそりとクロガネモチが今も元気で育つ神社です。2015年５月撮影

【被爆を伝える】
木々に守られて崩壊しなかった社務所は被爆によって傷ついた人々の避難所になりました。爆心からここまで避難してくる人々が大勢いました。

JR広島駅から広島バス「吉島営業所」行きで「吉島1丁目」で下車、徒歩１分。広島平和記念資料館から徒歩約30分。資料館をスタートに本川（旧太田川）沿いに南へ歩くと、住吉神社のマツ、浄西寺のイチョウ、そこから約15分で吉島稲生神社に到着する。被爆樹めぐり所要時間30～40分。

This tree survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, about 2,160m from the hypocenter.　
At 8:15 a.m, August 6,1945,Hiroshima was burned by the blazing heat of the atomic bomb. It had been rumored that"nothing will grow in Hiroshima for 70 years", so when people saw new buds sprouting,they were encouraged and were able to have hope for their future. It is alive!
